As we
reported last year, Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Downey has long been asking the federal government for help tracking down and arresting marijuana growers, and now he's gonna get it. Today
the White House announced that Humboldt County has been lumped into the Northern California "High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area," or HIDTA. What does that mean? More money, resources and cooperation from federal law enforcement — which, as
the SF Weekly correctly points out, likely means tighter price controls and bigger profits on that bud, yo!
But it could also mean a crackdown on the
environmentally disastrous outdoor mega-grows that have proliferated to
unprecedented numbers in recent years.
So what do you think, Humboldt County? Is this good news or bad?
