At Roger’s Memorial Service

We die like this:
Out of the very air
a car crosses the divider
and slams into ours.

We get 2, 3 seconds
and after that, SRO,
there are bagpipes and prayers
and singers, good ones

and all of us look around
not quite at each other
and eat
and see
we are not here

like this.
