The summer season for Ferndale Rep just shrunk by a little as noted in a press release sent out this morning. A plan to alternate between two shows in July and August was shelved. Lost in the shuffle is the French farce Boeing, Boeing, a story about a swinging bachelor with a flat in Paris where he keeps three stewardess fiancés. Apparently the potential farce involved in running two shows simultaneously was looking like a daunting task.
Here's the press release:
Ferndale Repertory Theatre has decided to cancel Boeing, Boeing, one of its two summer shows for 2013.
Scheduled to run from July 12th through August 11th. Boeing, Boeing, was to have played in repertory with our summer musical, Victor/Victoria.
The two shows were to be cast together and run in alternating weeks throughout July and August. The cancellation also means the summer performance schedule will change. Victor/Victoria will still open on Friday, July 19th as originally planned, but will now run for four consecutive weeks through Sunday, August 11th.
"We are saddened to make this decision, but it came down to a simple question of time and capacity." said Ferndale Rep's new Executive Director, Brad Hills. "We ran two shows in rep last summer and after talking to many people who were involved and looking at the production requirements of these two shows, we concluded this type of schedule is just more than we should be taking on. We are, after all, a community theatre relying on the time, talent and dedication of the wonderful Humboldt theatre community and it's important to know when you cross the line and begin asking too much. We came to the conclusion this would be one of those times. And now we can concentrate on doing the best job possible with Victor/Victoria, a show we are truly excited to be presenting.
Season Ticket buyers who are expecting to attend Boeing, Boeing, will be given two additional tickets to see Victor/Victoria or may use them in next year's season. Patrons are asked to call the theatre or send an email to determine how they would like to use these tickets.
