First off, let me just say that Joseph Byrd is an excellent person and a friend of mine. Even so I can easily understand the outrage and often angry responses he sometimes gets to the articles he’s written here in the Journal.

I am writing, however, to congratulate both Joseph and the North Coast Journal for the wonderful article “Last Suppers,” published in the May 14 edition. It was touching, it was personal and it was so very human. It was quite simply the best “Mother’s Day” piece I have ever read. I thank the Journal for including it (although a week late) and I honor Joseph for living it and sharing with us. I know it could not have been an easy experience to write about.
