Local group, TRUEntertainment, is presenting their 3rd annual family-oriented International Day of Peace observation in Arcata through inspiring arts in "Speak Your Peace" on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Arcata Playhouse, located at 1251 9th Street in Arcata. Donations $5-$10 will help pay for expenses and the Peace Pole project by TRUEntertainment. Kids under 7 are free. Join us for an evening of creativity, music, short film, narratives and stories. Snacks and teas from around the world will be provided. I nternational Day of Peace recognition was spearheaded by TRUEntertainment founder, Azra Andy Sehic, Bosnian native who is a Bosnian genocide survivor. Their proclamation of International Day of Peace is supported by the Arcata City Council and local non-profit organizations: Women's International League for Peace and Freedom ~ Humboldt Branch (WILPF), and Veterans for Peace ~ Humboldt Chapter 56 (VFP). At 6:30 PM there will be creative art activities: screen printing of peace sign with Beth Kabat of Thimbleberry Threads; Peace Flags and Card making with Marianne Cipolla Knox and Carol Woods; Peace Pole decorations with Andy Sehic and students from Yemen and Bosnia, accompanied with music by Bill Billstrom and Howdy Emerson. At 7 PM we will engage in celebration of inner and global peace through singing by Redwood Coast Montessori Choir, Raging Grannies; Joanne Rand, Yemaya Kimmel and Family on Peace Drums Circle; storytelling by Ali Freedlund, personal narratives and poetry from Yemen, Bosnia, Palestine/Israel and Foster Youth, and a short film from Syria. Raffle tickets available for purchase and drawing for the winner of a beautiful quilt donated by Open Heart Quilters, which benefits the annual Edilith Eckert Peace Scholarship of WILPF Humboldt.
