Taking Off The Roof

A companion constant

That's what cancer is --

I couldn't feel it inside of

me -- but -- there it was -- in my

house, in the shower, in

the car, at work, at the

breakfast/dinner/lunch table --

in my bed -- at night -- first thing

in the morning -- until, miracle

of miracle -- birds came, flocks

of tiny birds gathered at the

corners of the roof of my

house, birds hovering,

fluttering, tugging at wide

pieces of fabric tied

to the eaves and w/ their

many tiny beaks, birds carried

the roof off the house

letting in small light
