Erlei's Bakin It is Coming to Eureka

After five years in Ferndale, Erlei’s Bakin It will close the doors to its 444 Main St. location and reopen in its new Eureka location in early October. “The business wasn't sustaining itself,” says Erlei’s owner Rebecca Erlei.

Opera Alley Bistro Closes

Opera Alley Bistro, which opened in December of 2020 and won the Journal's Best of Humboldt Best New Restaurant in 2021, has closed. Co-owner Kyall Widmier, who also runs the Madrone Taphouse across the parking lot, declined to comment on the closure beyond that plans for the space are still up in the air.
Arcata to Get Wild Hare Tavern

The darkened windows of the Jam may not be dark for too much longer. Her purchase of the business from owner Mike Munson is still pending, but longtime bartender Angela Robershotte has plans to open Wild Hare Tavern in the plaza-adjacent spot.
Tavern 1888 Closing, for Sale

After a year of renovation to open and nearly two years as a popular Eureka dining spot, Tavern 1888 in the Eagle House is closing. According to a press release from owners Jenny and Tim Metz and Rebecca and Tammy Rex, the new American restaurant will serve customers through Aug. 31, and is for sale.
Last Call for Soup at Japhy's

Tera Mar and Kate Manley showed up at 10 a.m. to stake out the first spot in line for a last meal from Japhy's Soup and Noodles today. The restaurant announced its closure this week after a quarter century in business and the line for its final lunch service stretches up the block to Northtown Coffee.

Mazzotti's Shuts its Doors

On Thursday, Jan. 11, Joe Mazzotti says he had nobody to cook at Mazzotti's, so he didn't open the iconic Arcata Plaza restaurant. "December was probably one of the toughest financial Decembers I’ve had to face," he says, explaining the restaurant was only pulling in about half of its usual $5,000 per night.
