The jobless rate in Humboldt County crept higher in October, according to stats just released from the California Employment Development Department's Dennis Mullins, who works in the EDD's North Coast Region, Labor Market Information Division.

In October, the unemployment rate hit 11.1 percent. It was 10.4 percent in September. But we're doing better than some of our neighbors, and the state overall:

The seasonally unadjusted California rate: 12.3 percent

Del Norte: 12.4 percent

Siskiyou: 14.7 percent

Trinity: 17.9 percent

Shasta: 15.3 percent

Farther-afield Imperial County had the highest unemployment rate in California: 30 percent.

Brother-close Mendocino fared a bit better (10.6 percent), and spoiled cousin Marin, at 8.1 percent, had the lowest rate in the state.

The U.S. rate was 9.5 percent.

Total Humboldt industry employment decreased 2,600 jobs between October 2008 and October 2009, ending the year-over period with 46,900 jobs.
