The 30th Annual Reggae On The River kicked off scorching today, Friday Aug. 1, at French’s Camp, with temperatures reaching 106 degrees. Despite the heat, festival attendees remained in high spirits and gathered under the giant shade structure in front of the main stage to keep cool. Much to the crowd’s delight, the volunteer fire department also brought out one of their hoses to spray everyone down. Reggae hosts have also been stressing the importance of hydration.

The opening ceremony featured the Feather Dancers of Round Valley, a group of Native American singers and dancers from different tribes. Later performances included San Diego’s Thicker Than Thieves, New Zealand’s Majic, and I-Kronik, out of Jamaica. Tonight’s headline artists include Michael Rose at 10 p.m. and Gentleman & The Evolution.
