A 56-year-old Eureka man was killed late last night when his 2001 Porche drifted off of State Route 299 and rolled west of the Mad River Bridge.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene, according to a California Highway Patrol press release. Officials are withholding his identity until his family can be notified of the accident. Police are continuing to investigate whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

This marks Humboldt County's fifth vehicle-related fatality of 2018.

The accident remains under investigation and the CHP asks anyone with information to call 822-5981.
