UPDATE:
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office has identified the deceased as 18-year-old Hunter Allen, of Eureka.

PREVIOUSLY:
A young man was found dead early this morning on U.S. Highway 101 near Eureka, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Public information officer Samantha Karges said the office was called out to the scene just north of the Humboldt Hill exit around 3:30 a.m. to investigate a suspicious death.


“A deceased male subject was found near the roadway,” Karges said. “The subject appears to have been in his late teens or early 20s. He has not been identified. We have not determined the cause of death.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Aug. 8.
