A 24-year-old Chico man has been arrested on suspicion of double homicide in connection to the deaths of a man and a woman found dead in a burning vehicle on Aug. 14.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, Chico police detained Ulisses Rodriguez after a traffic stop in Chico this morning. He was later arrested on a no-bail warrant for two counts of homicide, criminal threats and exhibiting a firearm, according to a press release.

The release identifies the deceased as a 31-year-old female and a 32-year-old male, but does not release their names, pending positive identification through DNA testing. The release also does not disclose their causes of death.

The release of additional information in the case comes after Chico police and sheriff's investigators served search warrants in the China Creek area of Southern Humboldt this morning to "gather evidence related to the deaths." The investigation remains ongoing.

The unidentified man was taken in for questioning by Chico Police more than 200 miles away from the remote Southern Humboldt site where the bodies, reportedly a local man and woman, were found by firefighters who responded to the fire on Briceland Road near the Ettersburg Junction.
