UPDATE: Fires Breaking Out Along SR 299

2nd UPDATE:
According to CalFire Battalion Chief Paul Savory, the fire's forward progress has been stopped at 2.5 acres. Crews are currently mopping up but the threat to structures has been mitigated. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

1st UPDATE:
According to the Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services, westbound traffic on State Route 299 is currently being diverted due to the fire in the vicinity of Glendale Road. Motorists are also asked "to stay off Glendale Road while fire crews are working."


PREVIOUSLY:
A series of small fires along State Route 299 are burning approximately between Glendale and North Bank.

They started about 1:14 p.m. and are “spreading quickly,” according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page.

Multiple fire departments are responding but more have been requested. A mutual aid request went over the scanner about 1:44 p.m.

Tanker 96 is on the scene, according to Flight Tracker.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office tweet:
Fire crews are currently responding to a vegetation fire near Glendale Dr. and Highway 299. HCSO is assisting in public safety. Residents of the area are advised stay inside and be prepared to evacuate if necessary. No mandatory evacuation order is currently in effect.
