UPDATE: According to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Savona, State Route 36 now has one-way traffic control in place and many resources have been released.
A section of State Route 36 is being closed as firefighters respond to the report of a structure fire that is spreading into the vegetation along the roadway near the intersection with Love Lee Lane.
The report of the fire in the Carlotta area came in about 1:10 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol incident page indicates Calfire requested the closure around 1:30 p.m. for the eastbound and westbound lanes.
HWY 36 closed in both directions near PM 6.9-7.5 in Carlotta due to structure fire. Please avoid the area and pull over for emergency vehicles.
An incident commander described hearing “secondary explosions” when he arrived at the scene and stating that: “One structure is fully engulfed. There is no threat to the vegetation but other structures are threatened.”
Video by Tami Hoisington shows the smoke very thick.
