The Red Salmon Complex — comprising the Red and Salmon fires burning on the Klamath, Six Rivers and Shasta-Trinity National Forests within Humboldt, Siskiyou and Trinity counties — currently stands at 47,934 acres with 20 percent containment, according to this morning's update.

Fire crews battling the fires face challenges presented by winds expected to increase today and remain a threat into Wednesday afternoon.  A Red Flag Warning is in effect now through Wednesday, noon.

Heavy smoke from the fires and other fires to the south are impacting Eureka and coastal communities as well, according to the update.

"Heavy smoke from the Red Salmon Complex will be transported off to the west and southwest of the fire today due to strong northeast winds over the region."
