HSU to House Firefighters in Residence Halls

The university has partnered with the U.S. Forest Service to offer quarantine housing for those fighting fires in and surrounding Humboldt County.
In the event that the fire crews test positive for COVID-19, HSU has set aside two buildings that have room for up to 20 firefighters to self-isolate and quarantine.
The teams won't have access to the campus dining halls and will not be sharing spaces with students.

HSU Reserves Residence Halls for Firefighters
HSU has partnered with the U.S. Forest Service to house firefighters in unused residence halls on campus this fire season.
The agreement comes as a particularly intense fire season has already begun, with more than 1 million acres burned in the state.
HSU will provide quarantine housing to U.S. Forest Service firefighters in the event that someone on their teams tests positive for COVID-19. HSU has set aside two buildings, which can house up to 20 firefighters each until they’ve completed their quarantine period.
Firefighters will not have access to campus dining halls and won’t share spaces with students.
All of the protocols for these stays follow the best practices developed by the CDC, California Public Health, and Humboldt County Public Health.
HSU hosted CalFIRE in 2015 during the Mad River Complex fires to the east. We are excited to be able to offer support to fire crews as they battle fires in the surrounding areas.
