UPDATE:
One man is in serious condition and another has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after last night’s shooting in Myers Flat.
According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the 47-year-old victim was found outside a Dyerville Loop Road residence with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The suspect, 54-year-old John Michael Sheridan, was found sitting on a couch inside and was taken into custody without incident.
The shooting, which apparently occurred as the result of a disagreement, remains under investigation.

At about 8:55 p.m., law enforcement and an ambulance were responding to the 11400 block of Dyerville Loop Road near Kinnebrew Lane for a victim with a gunshot wound, according to a dispatcher giving information to emergency personnel. One man is in serious condition and another has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after last night’s shooting in Myers Flat.

The ambulance responding to the incident was asked to stage out of the area until law enforcement can make sure the incident scene is safe.
UPDATE 9:17 p.m.: Deputies are on the scene and one person is detained and medical personnel are asked to now leave the staging area and come to the scene.
UPDATE 9:37 p.m.: The ambulance is taking the victim to the hospital.

On September 21, 2020, at about 8:51 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 11400 block of Dyerville Loop Road in Myers Flat for the report of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival to the residence, deputies located a 47-year-old male victim outside with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Inside the residence deputies located the suspect, 54-year-old John Michael Sheridan, sitting on a couch. Sheridan was taken into custody without incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
Through their investigation deputies learned that the victim and Sheridan knew each other and had been spending time together that evening. At some point during that time, a disagreement occurred resulting in Sheridan reportedly shooting a firearm, injuring the victim.
Sheridan was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder (PC 664/187(a)). This case is still under investigation. More information will be released when available and appropriate.
