Recent rains helped firefighters work on the Red Salmon Complex, with containment shifting from 40 percent to 55 percent.

Air crews were looking today to continue to take advantage of clear skies to assist those efforts as fire officials remind the public not to hinder those flights by using drones in the area, which is under temporary flight restrictions.

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for some eastern areas of Humboldt County, and “forecasts indicate an increase in northeast winds coupled with hot and dry weather arriving in the area as early as Wednesday evening and continuing through Friday,” today’s update states.

Meanwhile, work continues on containment lines as does as mop up in the Calgrove Branch area of the fire. The eastern side has been seeing water drops to help suppression efforts on the ground.

“In areas where the fire is contained, fire suppression repairs are underway to restore hand and dozer fire lines, roads, staging areas, safety zones and drop points in order to minimize erosion, the update states. “Repair work can include installing water bars and pulling woody debris over disturbed soils.”

Evacuation warnings remain in effect for the communities in and around Forks of Salmon and Cecilville as well as Denny, including the Miller Ranch area.
