Slater Fire: 156,417 acres and 75 percent containment

Removing hazardous trees between Takilma and Happy Camp remains a high priority, along with inhibiting the fire’s spread west by securing edge along the Knopki and Chicago Creek drainages near Sanger Peak.

On the southern portion, patrols, mops up and work on containment lines near Happy Camp and Kelly Lake. Patrol operations are also underway on the northern side, with a focus on finding hot spots.

According to this morning’s update, “smoldering and creeping fire behavior persists, especially under tree canopies.”

Meanwhile, work is underway to prep drainage features near containment lines for fall and winter rains and Burned Area Emergency Response teams are evaluating fire damage to make recommendations about preserving natural and cultural resources in the burn areas.

Remote cameras will be installed to keep an eye on the fire, which is in “monitor and patrol status.”
