The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a McKinleyville man just before midnight Sunday in Samoa as a homicide and is asking for the public’s help.

According to a news release, deputies responded to New Navy Base Road near the Milwaukee Memorial and found Perry Zebulon Bailey, 34, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

“Upon further investigation, deputies learned that Bailey had reportedly approached an occupied parked vehicle when someone inside of the vehicle fired multiple gunshots at him,” the HCSO release states. “The vehicle then fled the scene.”

The suspects were described as a “white male adult wearing glasses and possibly a female adult” who were in a two-door, older model coupe that is matte, dark-colored, possibly with tinted rear windows. The vehicle may have damage to the driver side window and door.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at 268-2539.
