HCSO Rescues Boat Stranded in Humboldt Bay

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office responded to a search and rescue call of a  stranded boat in Humboldt Bay northwest of the Fields Landing boat launch.

According to the report, three occupants on a boat were stuck in a mudflat in the bay and due to the boat’s location, a U.S. Coast Guard rescue vessel was unable to safely reach the boat.

HCSO Special Services Division and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse responded to the scene and used an airboat to reach the stranded boat and rescue the occupants. No one was injured during this incident.

Humboldt Bay Boating Rescue

On Dec. 3, 2020, at about 7 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Services Division was dispatched to a search and rescue in the Humboldt Bay just northwest of the Fields Landing Boat Launch.

According to the reporting party, a boat with three occupants had run aground on a mud flat in the bay and were unable to get to shore. Due to the boat’s location, a United States Coast Guard rescue vessel was unable to safely reach the boat.

HCSO Special Services Division and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse responded to the scene. Utilizing the Posse’s airboat, emergency personnel were able to reach the stranded boat and rescue the occupants. No one was injured during this incident.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse and the United States Coast Guard for their assistance with this rescue operation.
