A word of caution to beachgoers: the North Coast could experience sneaker waves starting Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Eureka office of the National Weather Service, "A long-period west to northwest swell will bring a threat for sneaker waves to area beaches starting Tuesday afternoon. Periods of smaller waves will be accompanied by sudden larger waves that have the potential to sweep beach goers into the cold ocean waters. "

The NWS advises using caution on beaches, avoiding rocks and jetties and never turning your back on the ocean.
