North Coast Rep. Jared Huffman will be holding a virtual town hall to provide a report on the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol and Congress next Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, Jan. 6, members of Congress were evacuated as a mob of angry Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and Congress destroying property, breaking into offices and ultimately halting the certification of the electoral college results.

The riot has since left five dead, including one Capitol police officer.

According to the New York Times, the rioters marched to the Capitol at the president's urging after he addressed the crowd near the White House, saying, “We will never give up. We will never concede. It doesn’t happen.”

While under lockdown, Rep. Huffman began tweeting and called for the criminal prosecution of the president for sedition, saying “this has gone too far."

Next Tuesday's virtual town hall aims to address the 25th Amendment, articles of impeachment, Capitol Police readiness, holding rioters and those who incited violence accountable as well as ways to ensure a peaceful transfer of power.

Humboldt County residents can watch the town hall on Facebook, Access Humboldt on EDUC8, Suddenlink Cable Channel 8, KZZH, and streaming live here.
