UPDATE: Multiple Fatalities Suspected in Small Plane Crash Near Dinsmore

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reports that multiple people are believed to have died in the small plane crash near Dinsmore shortly before noon today and no survivors have been located.

“A deputy coroner is responding to conduct a death investigation,” the agency posted on Twitter. “Multiple fatalities are believed to have occurred, however, due to the state of the wreckage and continued investigation, we are unable to confirm the number of victims.”

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are involved in the investigation, which has not yet to determined a cause of the crash.

The fire has been contained and extinguished. State Route 36 remains closed.

Multiple agencies are responding to a small plane crash near Dinsmore on State Route 36 and a related fire.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office reports the number of passengers and injuries are unknown at this time and that the highway is temporarily closed to traffic near the airport.

A U.S. Forest Service crew is battling the small fire, with CalFire reportedly responding as well.
