UPDATE:
We're getting reports that the 6.2 earthquake that rattled Humboldt County at about 12:15 p.m. today shattered the windows of a number of businesses in Rio Dell and Ferndale.

The USGS, meanwhile, reports there have been a string of aftershocks in the temblor's wake, including a 3.0 around 12:40 p.m. and a 3.6 at around 12:50 p.m.

PREVIOUSLY:
Humboldt County just got a jolt for the holidays, with a 6.2 earthquake hitting off the coast of Petrolia at about 12:15 p.m. There is no threat of a tsunami from the quake, reports the Redwood Coast Tsunami Working Group.

According to a preliminary USGS map, the temblor's shaking was felt throughout Ferndale, Fortuna and Eureka.  The quake's epicenter was about 23 miles west of Petrolia along the triple junction at a depth of about 5 miles.
