Latest Election Results: Arroyo Gains Ground, Nielsen and Cervantes Poised for a Runoff
The numbers changed but not the overall status of local races in the latest round of election results released today.
In the Fourth District contest, Natalie Arroyo buoyed her lead to 50.85 percent of the vote, followed by Mike Newman at 34.51 percent and Kim Bergel at 14.66 percent. If Arroyo can stay above 50 percent mark, she’ll be able to avoid a November runoff with Newman, who trails her by just fewer than 500 votes.
Meanwhile, the race to become the county’s next clerk recorder and registrar of voters seems headed for a runoff, with Tiffany Hunt Nielsen holding her election night lead with 45.62 percent of the vote, trailed by Juan Pablo Cervantes with 41.55 percent and Benjamin Hershberger with 12.83 percent.

The remainder of the races mirror Election Night results, with challenger Cheryl Dillingham getting an overwhelming nod to take over as auditor-controller and district attorney hopeful Stacey Eads , Fifth District Supervisor Steve Madrone, judicial candidate Steven Steward and Arcata City Council candidate Alex Stillman all maintaining their healthy leads.
The Elections Office will continue to post results every Friday leading up the election’s July 7 certification.
The Elections Office notes that votes may subscribe to WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov to track their ballots, receive personalized text messages, emails or voicemails letting them know when their ballot is mailed, received, and counted by the Registrar of Voters.
