Officials have issued more evacuation orders on the outskirts of Willow Creek as the Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire continues to grow.

The group of 11 different fires caused by lightning strikes before dawn on Aug. 5 continues burn in steep, dry terrain, spreading with little containment. The U.S. Forest Service is managing the fire response, bringing equipment and personnel from across the state and region to work with local crews.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office issued evacuation orders for three zones east of Willow Creek — HUM-EO77-c, HUM-EO58 and HUM-EO61 — yesterday. (To exactly where the zones are, click here.) Evacuation warnings, meanwhile, mean in effect for other areas to the east and south of Willow Creek.

The Trinity County Sheriff's Office, meanwhile, issued an evacuation order for communities just across the Humboldt-Trinity county line, including Salyer Loop, Salyer Heights, Orchard Lane and Campbell Ridge Road.


An evacuation center has been set up at Trinity Valley Elementary School (730 State Route 96 in Willow Creek).

"We are making good progress on a few of the fires, but there are several that are challenging to address," Six Rivers National Forest reported on Facebook late this morning. "We are working to keep them as small as possible and still working on keeping them out of the larger community centers and from growing together to the extent that is safe and reasonably possible."

Yesterday, area residents reported planes and helicopters were filling the sky, dropping water and fire retardant over the fires. The fires have grown to cover more than 500 acres combined, but the U.S. Forest Service has identified the Campbell Fire burning near Salyer and the Oak Fire south of Willow Creek as the top priorities. The Bremer Fire, meanwhile, is the closest to Willow Creek.

Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire UPDATE
Evacuation warnings and orders remain in effect for areas east and south of Willow Creek as fire crews work to contain the Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire.

CURRENT SITUATION
The Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire is made up of 11 fires around the Willow Creek area. The fires are burning in areas of steep terrain and dry conditions. The incident response is being managed by the United States Forest Service - Six Rivers National Forest. Today resources from CAL FIRE have been deployed to assist in the firefighting efforts.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies continue to patrol the areas under evacuation order to notify residents of the order and conduct looting prevention.

State Route 299 remains open to through traffic. Residents are encouraged to visit http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ to check for state highway closures.

The following roads into evacuation zones have been closed. Residents may still use these roads to travel out of evacuation order zones:

RESOURCES FOR THE COMMUNITY
A Red Cross Overnight Evacuation Shelter has been established at Trinity Valley Elementary School, located at 730 Highway 96, Willow Creek, for evacuees displaced by the Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire.

RESTRICTED AREA ACCESS PASS
The registration period for an Ag or CannAg Restricted Area Access Pass has closed. Pass holders will be contacted by the Office of Emergency Services when it is deemed safe enough to enter evacuation zones to conduct operations as authorized by the program.

11 confirmed fires. A lot of resources really appreciate the support from our neighbors and North Ops. We are light on management, for the amount of resources we have. Fogler was able to send two operations to help. Additionally, CalFire has provided several Divisions, a Strike Team of engines and a few dozers to help provide support and leadership to help fill the gap until the Incident Management Team arrives on Sunday. Really appreciate our local Unit Chief (Kurt McCray) and the CalFire Regional office for augmenting some of our key needs.

WATERMAN: Approx. 75 acres. Fire is located northeast of Willow Creek on Waterman Ridge Road 7N02 Forest Route 4.
CEDAR: Approx 80 acres. Hose lay around fire. Multiple resources on-scene, engines, watertender, and hotshot crew. Additional resources in-route. Fire is located near Waterman Fire.
BREMER: 15 acres. Four engines and one hotshot crew. Fire is located northeast of Willow Creek on ridgetop above the Bigfoot Subdivision.
CAMPBELL: Approx. 100+ acres. Fire is seeing a flare up and larger column. New evacuation orders for Salyer Heighs, Salyer Loop Road, Campbell Creek Road. Fire is located south of Willow Creek on the west side of Campbell Ridge above Campbell Ridge Road. Mad River Hotshots on scene. (Bravo and Campbell fires grew together over night. Now one fire.)
FRIDAY: Fire is located south of Willow Creek ½ mile up Friday Ridge Rd from Hwy 299.
OAK: 200 acres. Fire is located south of Willow Creek. Near FS Road 5N31 and 6N20.
CHARLIE: Contained. Hose lay and hand line around fire. Located south of Willow Creek near the Oak Fire and along FS Road 6N20.
PRAIRIE: Contained. Cal Fire jurisdiction. Located east of Maple Creek, near Rooster Rock and Snow Camp Mountain. CalFire has stopped the forward progress of the Prairie Fire.
