Skye (Eileen Bolz) lived an unconventional and adventurous life of 97 years and passed away June 3, 2021.

Before moving to Humboldt County, Skye lived at Nepenthe in Big Sur and owned a leather shop in Marin, designing and making sandals, purses and belts. She taught art and was herself an artist who was enthralled with the creative process. Wherever Skye lived, she was always lavish in her support of the arts and artists, purchasing paintings, sculpture, textiles, ceramics and also handcrafted garments and jewelry that she wore with flair.

She had an insatiable curiosity about the world, and throughout her life met many fascinating people. Skye’s circle of friends included Kaffe Fassett, Henry Miller, Rita Hayworth, Edward Henry Weston, Boris Karloff and Chairman Mao (whom she dated and received postcards from for years!)

Skye was the first person to appear nude in Life Magazine, and quite proud of it! She was very perceptive, smart and generous, and had an excellent sense of timing about when to do the important things in life. Skye was always up for an adventure, right until the end, and she was even ready for that ultimate adventure.

Skye was flamboyant and liked challenging norms. She was a thoughtful friend, had a commanding personality, and at 6 foot 3 was a powerful force to be reckoned with. She was bold and forward thinking and approached life on her own terms.

Always a trailblazer, Skye’s first car was a Ford Model A, and her last, if her dream had come true, would have been a Tesla Cybertruck.

Skye had a great desire to make a difference in people’s lives, and, to all of us lucky enough to know her, she certainly did!
