Indiana Summer

(observations on desire)

In the dark room
Where the window is open
To summer

I watch the fireflies
Burn holes
Into the black
Flesh of night

Thick as cigarette smoke
Lies yellow, heavy
In the bed with us

Did you know then,
How I went naked and alone
Through your unfamiliar house,
To the bathroom

And kneeling
Placed my face
My cheek tight
to tile

So cool
So black
And so white?
