Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Both Sides of the Bluff; A History of Humboldt County Places is the first volume in a projected three-book series covering the history of all major locations in Humboldt County. In “Both Sides of the Bluff” thirty-one separate places are given chapter-length treatment, from Scotia to Fields Landing and from Hydesville to Centerville, with an opening chapter focusing on the region’s Indian tribes. Over 180 images illustrate more than a century’s worth of significant people, places, and events, and a map portfolio provides detailed views of the area’s main cultural features. Rohde has co-authored five books about the human and natural history of the Pacific Northwest, taught at Humboldt State University, and worked as a historian and ethnogeographer for the university’s Cultural Resources Facility. He has never met an old road, barn, or bridge he didn’t like. Join Jerry Rohde for a talk and PowerPoint presentation on the history of the communities in “Both Sides of the Bluff.” Rohde will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase.
