Predation, sexual and otherwise, has always been a hallmark of religion ("Rid me of This Troublesome Priest," Feb. 7). That is the reason for religion in the first place: to subjugate the population, control them and use them to consolidate power and wealth. That is why religion has always been entwined with politics and politicians. Whether it be emptying the wallets and bank accounts of believers, commandeering their beliefs to support your own or seducing or raping the flock, predation is built into religion and religion would have trouble functioning without it.
