I attended the (Feb. 7) rally for keeping the highway through Richardson Grove as it is. It was peaceful and positive until the police used violence causing some in the crowd to react defensively.
When the police made their move to clear the room I heard the rapid clicking of tasers and seconds later I saw a CHP officer with his taser out, waving it back and forth, and advancing. I could see the electricity sparking between the contact points. The officer next to him appeared to be doing the same. Photos in the Times-Standard show him brandishing a taser and nightstick. The Eureka Police Department said none of their tasers were activated. At what point is a taser considered active? Please look more aggressively into the use of tasers by the CHP at the rally.
