Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Cal Poly Humboldt Cannabis Studies Speaker Series: Charlatans, goat testicles and the American Dream: a talk about cannabis culture and the rise of citizen pseudoscience.

When: Wed., March 30, 5:30-7 p.m. 2022

How has cannabis industry led to revival of 'snake oil salesmen' or lay/medical entrepreneurs catering pseudoscience to unsuspecting and sometimes desperate patrons? Dr. Michelle Sexton, ND of the UC San Diego Centers for Integrative Health discusses the functions of restrictive laws, stigma, and hesitance of doctors/researchers, combined with patients' needs for palliative care that have laid the foundation for exploitation of valuable botanical medicine and the people who are desperate to try it. Where do we go from here to continue to move cannabis to a position of legitimate medicine, avoid conflicts of interest and fraud?
