It's reassuring that the city doesn't cave in to every threatened lawsuit ("Staking a Claim," July 25). But I wonder how many claimants are paid to go away. A most prominent example being a former county counsel who walked away with $289,000 of our taxpayer money. And we never were told what that was all about (seeing the person was a female, I'm guessing sexual harassment was alleged).
As for $4 million being paid out in the Cotton case, how much did the lawyer get? It must have substantial or she wouldn't have driven/flown up here.
Looking on the bright side, at least it wasn't Gloria Allred!
