Editor:

Your KHSU story was a terrific piece of journalism that looked beneath the surface narrative -- university bureaucrats trying to stifle political expression -- to reveal a much deeper story of competing perspectives and complex personalities (“Station Identification,” July 31). You showed that Democracy Now! is safe, and you pointed readers toward the issues that really matter, those that will determine KHSU’s future.

My top wish for the station: more local news and public affairs programs that provide vigorous reporting and balanced discussion of issues. Achieving this would require upgrading the journalism skills of existing staff or paying professional radio journalists to produce such shows. Ideally, these producers could use HSU students as reporters, assistant producers and on-air talent.
