Thanks for your continuing coverage of the code enforcement issues (“Code Cops, Not Real Cops,” Feb. 18). Your coverage has been critical in exposing this travesty of justice.

However, this issue has not been resolved. The County Counsel’s Office and Supervisor Duffy are continuing to try to use the code for other criminal issues. This misuse of code is an abuse of inspection warrants as well as an end run around the District Attorney’s legal powers. Humboldt County citizens voted for the current DA, and I think he and his staff are doing a good job. I did not vote for the County Counsel and they do not have the legal power to be police or district attorney staff.

The latest reason Supervisor Duffy gave for needing this unsupervised power is because there is child abuse out there. Wow, so you can now expect them to rush in to your house on a bogus warrant because you might be abusing your children.

Code enforcement should get back to doing their job of cleaning up junk, old cars and the Eel River and leave criminal issues to the police and the DA.
