I love Dave Silverbrand. I respect his TV work, his compassion and his sense of humor, to be sure. I am surprised and rather taken aback however, at his linkage to the "Media Maven" article (Jan. 6) discussing the lack of local press noting the death of Captain Beefheart ("Mailbox," Jan. 13).

In his line of reasoning, he invoked KHSU as having a "hemp carpet mentality." I will surely acknowledge that weed songs were heard on our airwaves, then as now. I played a few myself over the decades. I guess I did not appreciate the connections Dave made, and his bringing KHSU into the fray when we had no dog in Dave's fight.
