This lecture will discuss the geographic and social factors that led to the opportunity for a new community forest around Humboldt Bay, and present the County’s overall strategy for making the McKay Community Forest a valued community asset and vibrant place. This lecture will provide a telling of the creation story of a community forest, as well as a lens to view and appreciate the City of Arcata’s remarkable achievements with community forestry over the last 35 years.
