Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Grand Opening/Open House/Mural Unveiling

When: Sat., Sept. 5, 6-9 p.m. 2015

At the HUMBOLDT HERBALS COMMUNITY CLASSROOM 219 D St., Eureka. The Humboldt Herbals Community Classroom has been blessed by two powerful, rootsy artists. Katrina Redwood and Amy Glasser, have combined their woodland faerie magic, and merged their wisdom of the paintbrush and plants to create this giant enchanted mural. This piece truly sets the tone in wonderful expansive space. The two Earthen visionaries spent many late nights under the street lights of old town Eureka, laughing, singing, and working away at creating a beautiful mural and also a beautiful sisterhood. The mural at the Humboldt Herbals Community Classroom is an elaborate and complex vision. With their herbalism and artistic powers combined, these visionaries gave birth to an educational, artful, and spiritual piece. The mural expresses that herbalism is not just a field of study, but a whole spiritual journey. The Artists' intention with the mural is to unite the essence of plant magic and healing medicinal information in order to aid others in the process of connecting and learning about medicinal herbs. The mural is organized by categories of basic medicinal properties: nervine, nutritive, wound healing, immune support, digestive, and reproductive. More medicinal properties branch out of the main category, creating a medicinal plant flow chart. A plant is painted above each specific category. Since each plant has various medicinal properties, the Artists honed in and chose the most iconic plant that best fits and represents the specific property. It is easy to get engrossed in the piece as the mural contains many worlds within worlds. Luckily, the Artists created a mural key in order to identify each plant. Because of its size and content, it is nearly impossible to capture it all in one photo. We are thrilled that one can stare at the wall for hours and still discover new magical and informative components. About the Artists... Amy Glasser is an Artist and Herbalist. She studied and graduated from both the Dandelion Herbal Center and Northwest School for Botanical Studies here in Humboldt. She studied studio art for her bachelor’s degree. She enjoys utilizing art as a method for understanding the world around her, and hopes that others can make use of her art for that purpose as well. Amy is about to venture off to Costa Rica and paint more botanical illustrations but of tropical medicinal plants! Katrina Redwood is a Visionary a Artist of many mediums. Primarily, she works with acrylic and other Earth~friendly, clay based paints. It is her intention to set the hearts of her audience alive, encouraging others to freely express themselves with the inspirations of her bold style. She has been classically trained at the University of Vermont where she dove deep into the realm of Theatre Arts, working on a rich understanding of costume and set design. Katrina has a vast skill-set, working on various canvasses such as skateboards, signs, puppets, clothing, and people...with tattoo design, and body painting. Her main line of work is in Commercial Design where she assists in bridging the visions of budding projects and businesses by bringing them to life with Logos, and Book Illustrations. Katrina often lights up the stage in the music realm with her Live Painting performances. With this work she collaborates with a myriad of musicians and does improvisational work bringing the essence of the musical performance into large paintings, sharing her process joyously. She does this as a catalyst for others to courageously open up and create. It is Katrina's greatest joy to inspire others to open up and let the life magic pour through hands and hearts as a modality of healing and release. This mural projects has served as a wonderful foundation for the first energies shared in our wonderful Community Classroom. We give thanks for the vibrancy and magic in this ensouled expression of art. We hope it is enjoyed by our whole community as a backdrop for many classes and workshops in this exciting and inviting space, for all to gather in. We welcome all to come gather and celebrate with us at this upcoming Arts Alive on September 5th to unveil the mural that is accompanied by the personal works of both Amy Glasser and Katrina Redwood.
