Eureka Symphony Chorus Auditions for “Messiah” Select auditions for the Eureka Symphony Chorus will take place August 26-27 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 625 15 th Street, Eureka. Singers selected will join the Eureka Symphony Chorus in performing Handel’s beloved masterpiece “Messiah” at the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts during the symphony’s winter concert, “The Trumpet Shall Sound” November 30 and December 1, 2018. Auditionees should be prepared to: sing a major triad on any given pitch that is played for you (on the piano, usually 5 or 6 different pitches), sing a minor triad on any given pitch that is played for you, sing a whole step up or down as requested on any given pitch, sing a half step up or down as requested on any given pitch, sing back a combination of 6 pitches that will be played for you (tonal memory), sight sing two short passages provided for you, and sing any solo piece of choice that shows the auditionee’s voice to its advantage.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award. Humboldt artists, arts organizations, businesses, educators and individuals are eligible. Nominate by letter to the Humboldt Arts Council at 636 F St., Eureka. Nomination deadline is Friday, Aug. 24.
