Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Humboldt County Historical Society

When: Sat., Sept. 9, 1 & 3 p.m. 2017

Jerry Rohde presents “Okay, Let's See the McKay,” a PowerPoint trip in time that looks at the historic McKay Tract. The McKay Tract, which supplied giant redwood logs for Eureka's Occidental Mill, is now a Humboldt County Community Forest. On this trip into the past, Jerry Rohde will be your guide along the waterfront of Eureka when it was lined with lumber mills. You will recall how logs were transported on the bay and nearby sloughs, and look at the Ryan Slough and Ryan Creek areas that made up the timber-rich McKay Tract. And you'll learn how it all connects to the famed "Valley of the Giants."
