Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Humboldt Lagoons State Park Volunteer Event

When: Sat., Feb. 26, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. 2022

The North Coast Redwoods District of California State Parks invites the public to join the Natural Resource volunteers and Park staff to help restore our western azaleas in Humboldt Lagoons State Park by removing vegetation that is encroaching into the azalea bushes. The event runs 10am to 1pm on February 26th, 2022. We will use hand tools such as: loppers, hand pruners, Pulaski, and hand saws to remove the competing vegetation. All gloves and tools are provided. Meet at the Stagecoach Hill Azalea Trailhead on Big Lagoon Ranch Road. Take Highway 101 to Kane Road (highway marker 112.5); turn right and go up the hill to Big Lagoon Ranch Road following the signs to the trailhead. Volunteers will receive a one free day use pass to Sue-meg State Park. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes for walking off trail. Work locations are less than a ½ mile hike from the trailhead. Parking is limited, please carpool if possible. All ages welcome. Heavy winds or rain will cancel the event. Please contact Katrina Henderson at katrina.henderson@parks.ca.gov or (707) 677-3109 with any questions
