Past-president, Mike Norberry's, program will be "Growing Lilium in Humboldt County." Lilies can be companion plants for garden roses, and they can stand alone in their own glory. Mike will discuss the different types of lilies---Asiatics, Trumpets, Orientals, Orienpets, Species, as well as Humboldt County's native lilies. He grows them all at his Arcata home, all in containers. He will explain how you can take a single lily bush and make several identical bulbs as well as hybridizing techniques to develop different characteristics in new plants. A slide program will show some of his crosses. A short business meeting will touch on plans for the annual Rose Show, Sunday, June 11, at Redwood Acres. Refreshments are provided at the meeting, and there are always wonderful door prizes for the fortunate winners. At every meeting, there is an opportunity for anyone with questions about rose selection and care to get some helpful answers.
