The Feb. 7 issue looked at the impact of sexual abuse in Humboldt County within the catholic church ("Rid me of This Troublesome Priest"). Perhaps other readers, like me, were struck by the statement in Gretha Omey's letter to the editor (Mailbox, Feb. 21) that read, in part, "The church will be purified. No heretical pope, homosexual cardinal..." etc.
The topic here, Ms. Omey, is sexual activity of any kind. A more faithful comment might be, "The church will be purified. No heretical pope, heterosexual cardinal, homosexual cardinal, any member of the clergy breaking their vow of celibacy."
Let us be mindful that moral righteousness is the offpsring of the sin of pride. Pride blinds the faithful by making them believe they are superior to others and have the right to judge others. James 4:6 says, "God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble."
