Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

"Inspired by Ragtime"

When: Sat., Nov. 5, 8 p.m. 2022

The Department of Dance, Music, and Theatre at Cal Poly Humboldt presents The Cal Poly Humboldt Faculty Recital Series: “Inspired by Ragtime.” A highlight of the program will be “Four Rags for Two Jons” by John Novacek, performed by John Chernoff, piano, and Virginia Ryder, Clarinet. Novacek wrote about Ragtime, “...that hybrid of black dance tunes filtered through the procedures of polka, march, and white minstrel song. Classic ragtime flourished from 1895 to 1915 when a number of talented pianists gathered at Rosebud Cafe in St. Louis. The greatest was Scott Joplin, whose infectiously syncopated marches conceal a solid compositional technique."
