Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Katherine McCaughey Fun Run and Walk

When: Sat., July 4, 7:30 a.m. 2015

Sponsored by the Six Rivers Running Club, the 17th Annual 5K Katherine McCaughey 4th of July Family Fun Run and Walk will take place at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on July 4th, 2015. It is a fun run with a history. Registration for the 5K race will take place between 7:30AM and 9:30AM at the South I Street far parking lot. Race scheduled to begin soon after. Over the years, former high school teammates and friends are now adults who race their tots in strollers. Their parents are now grandparents. The Fourth of July run is always a race in which serious runners join a spirited crowd of costumed track folk decked out in red, white and blue. It is a race for anyone who loves to run in the spirit of Katherine McCaughey. We remember Katherine as a wide-eyed freshman with an easy smile and a member of the Arcata High School track team. She demanded perfection in all that she did. Throughout her four years on the track team, she forged friendships, and sealed them with her spirit of fun. We remember her as a fleet-footed dancer on the red track after a race and we remember her running extra laps just for the fun of it. We can’t forget that she loved to chase Coach Washington up all the Arcata hills. After four years of running, Katherine was a self-confident runner. She was an AHS senior leader and a North State qualifier. After AHS, she took her running experience to the University of Colorado triathlon team. Although Katherine’s life was ended by a hit and run driver in the summer of her freshmen year, her spirit resides in this race and in a scholarship award to an AHS senior. http://www.6rrc.com/2015.html https://www.facebook.com/Katsmemorialrun
