Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Mills of Humboldt County

When: Sat., June 4, 1 p.m. 2016

Humboldt was at the forefront of the massive redwood logging industry. In 1896, there were thirteen mills devoted to sawing redwood lumber and twenty-six mills making redwood shingles in Humboldt County. Other related industries, such as shipbuilding, boiler works, tanbark, and split products, further shaped the economic vitality of the county. While most of these industries no longer exist, many remnants of the logging heyday can still be found. O’Hara & Service’s new book explores the sites of Humboldt’s lumber industry and the day-to-day realities of life for those who worked in the mills and the woods. O’Hara and Service will sign copies of their new book, which will be available for purchase.
