On Demands

The obstructionism of Eureka City Attorney Cyndy Day-Wilson ("Eureka Gets Squirrely about Handing over Public Records," May 19) and the city's deceitful press release in support of her dilatory tactics prove again two hallowed truths:

"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never has and it never will." — Frederick Douglass.

"The secrets of government, like the secrets of men, are always their defects." — Thomas Paine.

Paul Mann, McKinleyville
