Set in rural Washington State, this high school experienced profound, positive changes when Principal Jim Sporleder focused his staff and student-body on responsive trauma informed practices based on incorporating the neuroscience that show’s traumas impact on learning and the markers left behind with high adverse childhood experience (ACE's) scores. It emphasizes the natural resilience that school environments offer. Paper Tigers offers exceptional insight into the challenges and achievements that this school endured. By creating a learning environment and school climate that focused on the health, spirit, and academic wellness of each student, they were able to achieve profound success and change the trajectory for many of their students.
