On the loss of local programming at KHSU, the closing of the Third Street Art Gallery and the end of the Lumberjacks football team: I am so sad and profoundly disappointed.
I am ashamed of the current administration of this university. They have chosen to believe that balancing the budget is their only responsibility and that it has to be done at the sacrifice of the programs dedicated to building and maintaining community connection. They could and should instead work with the community members dedicated to maintaining and supporting these programs.
As our world changes, collaboration and communication are the only practices that will build lasting strength. Their top-down style of leadership is archaic and destined to diminish the quality of this institution and our communities; the damage will last long after they are gone. What an awful sorrow for us all.
